Bulgaria is one of the most abundant countries in mineral waters in Europe.

There more than 1,200 natural mineral water springs and mud-curing deposits, out of which 500 have unique curing qualities. Yet ancient inhabitants of these lands – the Thracians, the oldest civilization in Europe, were aware of the curing effect of the mineral springs. Near the mineral springs,temples of health (asclepions) and beauty (nympheums) were erected for recreational purposes, and dedicated to the Hellenic God of health, Asclepious, and the Goddess of Spring, Nymph. In various regions in Bulgaria, archaeological relics have been found that date back to the Roman and Byzantine epoch.
